Sports Coaches & PPA Cover
The Partnership work with a range of self employed professional sports coaches. If you are looking to find a coach to run a session in your school or company please get in touch with us. All of recommended sports coaches are enhanced CRB cleared and qualified in their specific sports through the UKCC coaching awards.
PPA Cover for Primary Schools
We offer a highly recommended school Planning Preparation and Assessment (PPA) learning programme designed to inspire and develop children through high quality PE provision. If you are interested in this service or looking for a particular sports coach to come into your school please contact us at the Partnership.
Quality Assurance
In order to promote learning through sport and to adhere to the school policies and procedures we understand that our coaches need to have the relevant expertise. All of our PPA coaches possess various sporting qualifications including a minimum level 2 UKCC coaching award.
Our coaches have completed the ‘Para-professional Studies in Primary Physical Education’ course at St Mary’s University to enhance their knowledge in the field. Through this course and with our additional training we are confident that our coaches are able to create, plan and deliver high quality PE that meets the National Curriculum for Key Stages 1 and 2. As part of our ongoing training and development programme our coaches are observed on a termly basis and provided opportunities to further their skill set through additional courses and feedback.
We work closely with the borough’s Advanced Skills Teacher for PE in overseeing all of our coach development and planning to ensure the full breadth of the curriculum is covered. Lesson plans are completed ready for the start of the half term block. All plans are available to the school if they require a copy.
School and Pupil Benefits
- Efficient management of PPA cover – our coaches take on all class PE lessons during the days cover.
- Last year we had a 100% attendance rate for our cover and never let any school down. We are well managed and able to cover our coaches in the unusual event of sickness leave.
- PE sessions are delivered by expert guaranteed to engage and challenge all students and improve correct technique.
- Our PE expertise can be used to help train and bring new ideas to your teachers through observations.
- We provide a competitive service and we are unique in that all monies we receive through PPA cover are re-invested directly into Merton School Sport and back to your pupils, this would not be the case with other private providers. Our objective is to improve PE and school sport not solely to make money from our schools.
- After school/extra curricular activities are also available to the school should they wish to include this with their PPA package. This may be beneficial for school team training & preparing for up and coming competitions and festivals. Some school chose to make a small charge to their pupils to cover this cost.
- With unbiased links to every local reputable sports club, children with interest or talent will be directed to high quality clubs to ensure they make the most out of their talent and enthusiasm. Click here to see our local club links.

At Merton School Sport Partnership we recognise our responsibility for ensuring the welfare of all young people (under 18 years), as well as vulnerable adults, who may have a disability or be involved with sport and physical activity, regardless of their culture, ethnic origin, religious belief, sexual identity or gender.
All staff involved with Merton School Sport Partnership, whether in paid or a voluntary capacity recognise that they have a duty of care towards children and young people as well as vulnerable adults. Each coach is CRB checked and will have a child protection and first aid qualification. They will have their own public liability insurance and / or be covered by Harris Academy Merton.
