Year 10/11 Boys Basketball

January 16th, 2012

Canon’s Leisure Centre hosted the 2012 Year 10/11 Boys Basketball competition. This year there were seven teams entered and the standard of basketball was very high. During the competition the teams all played each other in a league format. This meant that each team had six games over the 11 rounds, meaning that there was plenty of rest time and opportunity to watch the other teams play.
As the competition began there were no immediate favourites and after the first few rounds it was still unclear due to the number of close results. However, round three gave us an insight into which if the teams might be challenging for the title. Harris Academy beat Wimbledon College with a late three-pointer; this was an impressive victory as the Wimbledon College teams had been tipped as contenders.
There were also some impressive displays from the Rutlish B team who beat both Wimbledon College teams. There were some very close games during the competition and in the end it came down to the match between Harris and Wimbledon College B, as both teams were very strong. Both sets of players knew the importance of the match and in the end Harris came out on top.
Bishopsford also played some good basketball throughout the tournament and came close against Rutlish B and beat Rutlish A in a very close game. They also gave Wimbledon College B a good game after going down early in the first half. Their second half performance really showed how much they enjoyed playing and that they didn’t want to give up.
At the end of the tournament Harris Academy emerged as the winners after winning all of their games, ending in maximum points. In second place was Rutlish B, who only lost one game and in third place was Wimbledon College B. The final table looked like this:
