Mitcham Cluster Tag Rugby Year 5/6
January 25th, 2012
St Marks Academy played host to the Mitcham Cluster Tag Rugby competition. Toby Seward from the RFU was there to introduce the event. Year 8 leaders from the school were on hand to referee the matches from their newly learnt skills. The day before the event they all undertook a Tag Rugby Young Leaders Course.
Unfortunately, at a late stage the amount of teams that entered reduced from five to just three. The schools were St Thomas, Links and Bond. This meant that those schools that had turned up had already qualified for the borough finals without even touching a ball!! Even though all three schools had qualified there was still fierce competition to win the cluster event!
Each school played each school twice so they had four games in total. St Thomas got things underway with some great running and try scoring, Links showed some flashes of brilliance but St Thomas proved too strong. It was clear from this that they were the team to beat. Bond scored an excellent try to shock St Thomas in the second game to make this game a draw. Links then had learnt from their first game and came out fighting against a tired looking Bond side. This game also ended in a draw, making this competition anyones!
St Thomas won their remaining two games to be clear winners with 10 points but both Links and Bond improved throughout the competition.
