Team Requirements & Eligibility

  • Age: Year 5 & 6.

  • Mixed gender event. A squad can contain a maximum of 3 boys although this is not a requirement.  Maximum of 2 boys on court at any time.

  • Squad size: Maximum of 9, minimum of 7 players in a squad.

Competition Format

Draw Format

  • Round robin groups. All teams will progress to a second stage of knockout competition according to their placement in the first round.

Seeding

  • No seedings

Awards         

  • Cluster Certificates: GOLD: winners. SILVER: runners-up. BRONZE: 3rd place.

  • Participation certificates will be presented to all participants.

Kit & Equipment

  • No jewellery or hair adornments may be worn, earings must be taped or removed.

  • Fingernails must be cut short and shoe laces securely tied.

  • Set of bibs, with positions initialled front and back.

  • Each team must bring their own warm up netball.        

Rules

  • A squad is made up of the following playing positions: Goal Shooter, Goal Attack, Centre, Goal Defence and Goal Keeper as well as Scorers, Time Keepers and Centre Pass Markers.

  • Rotations must be made at half-time and the end of each match in preparation for the next game.

  • Team Managers must bring two completed copies of their rotation sheet. One must be submitted to the registration desk, and the other must be used by the Team Manager on the day to ensure that players rotate correctly.

  • The rotation pattern means that only a maximum of 2 boys are on court during a game. Teams with squads of 7, to avoid 3 boys on court after rotation 6 go back to rotation 1.

  • Any team found to have submitted an incorrect rotation sheet, whether accidentally or deliberately, cannot progress to the top half of the draw and may be disqualified from the competition.

  • Teams must rotate positions for every new match. Rotation will continue from the morning rounds to the afternoon rounds, semi-finals and final. No variation on the rotation will be permitted. Any team found not to be following the correct rotation will be penalised.

  • First team on court, in position will get first centre pass. In the event of both teams being ready at the same time a toss-up will decide.

  • Each match will start and finish on the umpires whistle, which will be blown immediately after the sounding of a central bell/hooter.

  • Players have 4 seconds to pass or shoot.

  • Footwork rule must be obeyed.

  • No marking the pass with arms, just one jump to intercept is allowed – 3ft distance required.

  • Must receive centre pass in centre third.

  • Players must stay within their position boundaries.

  • A player cannot bounce the ball more than once.

  • When shooting, if the ball does not make contact with the hoop or another player, the shooter cannot re-catch the ball. This will be considered a replayed ball and the opposition will re-start play with a free pass.

  • Ball cannot be thrown over a complete Third without being touched or caught by another player.

  • In the event of a draw in the knock out rounds, 1 minute extra time will be played and the first team to score a goal will win. If it is still a tie at the end of the 1 minute, a penalty shoot off will be held: best of 3 then sudden death. Penalty shots will be taken 2m away from the post.

Results

  • Results and event report will be available on the news webpage within 24 hours of the event ending.

Winner's Pathway

  • The top four schools will qualify for the Borough Finals on Friday 9th November 2018 at Ricards Lodge High School.

Photo Consent

Photographs will be taken at this event by staff members from MSSP and may be used for promotional material. If you have any children that do not have permission to be photographed, please inform a member of staff before the start of the event.

First Aid

MSSP will have a basic first aid kit and qualified person at all events but staff may not be available to tend to less urgent first aid if they are preoccupied delivering the event. It is important that schools also provide their own first aid kit and qualified person to tend to their children at our events. As part of the school’s risk assessment a qualified first aider should also be with the travelling group to and from any events.

Safeguarding and DBS

All MSSP staff at the event are fully vetted and enhanced DBS checked. It is the schools’ responsibility to ensure any staff and volunteers who attend the event comply with the host venue safeguarding and welfare policy and can provide documentation to support this on request.

Spectators will not be permitted entry to school facilities and should be informed of this when letters are sent to parents. In order to safeguard children at our events, we will only allow entry to parents if they have been DBS checked and authorised to attend by your school who will maintain responsibility for them at all times. At public sites such as parks we will section off an area for the public where parents that are not with the school party may spectate from.

REF-SPECT

MSSP values the contributions by all those involved in making our events a safe, enjoyable environment for children to take part in sport. To ensure our events continue to be successful we promote our REF-SPECT campaign. We expect everyone attending our events to maintain respect for the rules, officials, opponents, teammates and themselves. Only designated staff and volunteers will be allowed on the side-lines. All spectators are to remain behind the barriers, providing positive support and encouraging a fun and fair event.
