Merton Abbey is a one form entry primary school for children aged 5-11. If you travel from South Wimbledon to Morden you will find our attractive school set in a large green field beside the church and a small park on a road named High Path. The school takes its name from the historic Merton Abbey, on whose site the area stands. The school’s role is rising steadily and we now have 194 children, with a vibrant developing Nursery class for three and four year old pupils to a high achieving Year 6 class of ten and eleven year olds. Our most recent Ofsted Report (December 2006) says 'Teachers are skilled in asking good questions, which encourages pupils to think for themselves’. Our school is a calm and stimulating centre of learning, working with eager children from a wide range of rich cultural backgrounds. Able children and children with particular needs are catered for in the planning process and relationships between staff and children are excellent. Parents too share in the school’s life, raising funds for treats and equipment and contributing to policy review. The school is establishing a culture of effective communication and links with outside agencies from Education and the Community. We are an extended school and have a range of activities out of the normal school day to both challenge and enjoy. There is a breakfast club, an after school club and a variety of extra curricular subjects run by teachers and outside providers. The good guidance and support provided by all of the staff develop pupils’ confidence and self esteem successfully and this contributes to their good personal development and well-being’.
