The Merton School Sport Partnership held its inaugural Raynes Park and Wimbledon Primary Rounders Competition on Friday 1st July 2016 at Raynes Park School Sports Ground. Due to the popularity of rounders within the borough, this year the partnership decided to split the annual borough primary rounders competition into a Mitcham and Morden Cluster and Raynes Park and Wimbledon Cluster competition, in order to accommodate more teams taking part.
The Merton School Sport Partnership held its inaugural Mitcham and Morden Primary Rounders Competition on Wednesday 29th June 2016 at Harris Academy Morden. Due to the popularity of rounders within the borough, this year the partnership decided to split the annual borough primary rounders competition into a Mitcham and Morden Cluster and Raynes Park and Wimbledon Cluster competition, in order to accommodate more teams taking part.
Tuesday 28th June saw eight schools from across the Borough take part in the Year 5 Best Team Kwik Cricket competition held at a very accommodating Merton CC. With the occasional sunny spell and light breeze, conditions were perfect for cricket. The eight schools were split into two pools, playing two mini-leagues.
The Merton School Sport Partnership Primary Swimming Gala Finals 2016 took place on Friday 24th June 2016 at Morden Park Swimming Pools.
On Monday 13th June 2016 the Merton School Sport Partnership, in conjunction with four local bowls clubs (Merton, Merton Park, Wimbledon Park and Mitcham), held their Primary Schools Bowls Competition. The four teams that entered the event were: Joseph Hood, Wimbledon Park, Poplar A and Poplar B. Prior to the event, representatives from the clubs went in to train the teams of eight children in advance to give them tips on playing bowls, explaining the format of the event and demonstrating the correct bowls etiquette.
The annual Merton Primary School Swimming Gala Heat 3 was held on Tuesday 24th May 2016 at Morden Park Pools. Heat’s 1 and 2 were previously held the week before on Tuesday 17th May 2016. Swimmers took part in various events; backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle and relay races. Fewer schools attended this heat compared to heat 1 and 2; however the cheering from those schools that attended didn’t show it.
Due to popular demand, the annual Merton Primary School Swimming Gala Heats have now been split over 3 heats, with heats 1 & 2 being held on Tuesday 17th May 2016 at Morden Park Pools. 29 primary schools from across the borough have entered for the swimming heats, with 23 of these schools attending heats 1 & 2. Swimmers took part in various events; backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle and relay races. The atmosphere was incredible from start to finish as all schools cheered on their swimmers from the pool side.
Merton Borough U11 Football 2015/2016 results
For the first time the Merton Borough Secondary School Athletics Championships were held at the David Weir Leisure Centre. In another first, the Championships were staged a week earlier than usual – this change in time was felt by all present as snow, rain, wind and sun ensured the conditions changed dramatically on an hourly basis.
On Wednesday 24th March 2016, 15 primary schools from across the borough came to Merton School Sports Partnerships annual Year 5/6 Tri- Golf Competition at Wimbledon Park Golf Club. Tri-Golf is a modified version of golf that uses foam balls, a plastic putter and chipper. The competition is made up of 8 stations; 4 putting and 4 chipping. The objective of the stations is to work as a team to score as many points as you can in 5 minutes. The winning team is the school with the greatest number of points after completing all 8 stations.
