Thursday 22nd October 2015 saw the children in Years 3 and 4 from the Wimbledon Cluster schools take centre stage just two days before the RWC2015 semi-finals, and they provided entertainment to rival the main event! Thirteen teams from nine schools travelled to Wimbledon Chase Primary School to take part in an afternoon that fully embraced the Rugby Core Values of Respect, Discipline, Sportsmanship, Enjoyment and Fair Play.
The Wimbledon Cluster competitions kicked off in fine form this year with a Rugby World Cup 2015 inspired Year 5/6 Tag Rugby Tournament at Wimbledon Chase on Friday 16th October 2015. It was fantastic to see every school represented and 15 teams in total.
The teams were split into three pools, with all A teams competing in Groups 1 and 2 while B and C teams played one another in Group 3. The top two teams in Groups 1 and 2 would go on to represent the Wimbledon Cluster at the Borough Finals in February.
Friday 3 July 2015 saw the final Wimbledon Cluster event of the year take place: Y3/4 Rounders held, once again, at Wimbledon Chase Primary School. On a scorching hot afternoon, all eleven Wimbledon schools brought down a squad of enthusiastic athletes ready to battle the heat and their opponents on the rounders field.
The eleven teams were separated into three groups: one of three teams and two groups of four. Each group competed as a single entity resulting in three group winners at the end of the afternoon.
All eleven schools entered the Wimbledon Cluster Year 5/6 Best Team Kwik Cricket competition held at Wimbledon Chase Primary School on Tuesday 28th April. Apart from a chilly wind, conditions were perfect to enjoy an afternoon playing competitive but fair cricket. The twelve teams present were split in to two pools, with each team playing the other sides in their group.
On Tuesday 21st April 2015, Pelham Primary School’s Year 5/6 Tag Rugby team had the amazing opportunity to attend a Harlequins First Team training session at Surrey Sports Park.
Pelham’s Tag Rugby team were invited to this training session as a result of their brilliant performances when they won the MSSP Year 5/6 Tag Rugby Borough Finals. Pelham’s Tag Rugby team were understandably very excited about their trip to watch the Harlequins training session.
The 2015 Year 5/6 Wimbledon Cluster High 5 Netball competition was held at Ricards Lodge and, yet again, every school in the cluster was represented. On a windswept, cold day it would be hard to play flowing netball but all teams turned up ready to give it their very best.
Due to the popularity of the event, the schools were split into three groups, with schools’ B teams playing in their own, separate league.
Wimbledon Chase Primary School played host to the Wimbledon Cluster Y3/4 Best Football Competition on Thursday 23 October. It was fantastic to see all 11 Wimbledon schools represented at the event, with four schools bringing B teams too. The 15 teams present were split in to three leagues of five and played four 10-minute matches.
The first ever Wimbledon Cluster Year 3/4 Rounders Tournament took place on Friday 4th July at Ricards Lodge High School.
As the first ever event for this age group, organisers did not know what sort of standard to expect and where shocked by how fantastic the teams were! They had all been practising very hard! Even more impressive was the fact the children understood the rules and were even applying strategies and tactics during the games!
