A Final Schools' Gala for Morden Park Pool

As the brand new Pool at Morden Park begins to show its splendour on the local landscape, 26 Merton Primary Schools’ enjoy their final races at the current pool (which was built back in 1967).  

As always the Partnership team and sports leaders from Rutlish High School arrived with flip flops and plenty of bottled water at the ready for the heated evening that was to follow. Kath, from Malmesbury, had once again done an excellent job of preparing for the event and arrive super charged and raring to go!!

MSSP Tri Golf Competition 2017-18

On Friday 16th March 2018, sixteen primary schools from across the borough came to Merton School Sports Partnerships annual Year 5/6 Tri- Golf Competition at Wimbledon Park Golf Club. Tri-Golf is a modified version of golf that uses foam balls, a plastic putter and chipper. The competition is made up of eight stations; four putting and four chipping. The objective of the stations is to work as a team to score as many points as you can in five minutes. The winning team is the school with the greatest number of points after completing all eight stations.

Raynes Park Cluster Year 5/6 Tag Rugby Competition

On Tuesday 6th March 2018, the Raynes Park Cluster Year 5/6 Tag Rugby Competition finally took place after being delayed by the freezing temperatures of the beast from the east the previous week. All 11 Raynes Park Cluster schools were in attendance with Poplar bringing an A and a B team. This created two pools of 6 teams, with the top two teams at the end of the group stages going through to the Borough Finals on Friday 9th March.

Merton Borough Year 3/4 Key Steps 2 Gymnastics Competition 2018

The Merton School Sport Partnership held its annual Key Steps 2 Year 3/4 Gymnastics Competition on Friday 23rd February 2018 at Canons Leisure Centre. Sixteen primary schools from across Merton took part in the event with two schools bringing a B team. As part of the Key Steps Gymnastics, all gymnasts compete in three different disciplines throughout the competition: Floor, Vault and Body Management. A team consists of two boys and two girls; all four gymnast’s scores are added together from each discipline to determine their team’s overall score.

Wimbledon Cluster Year 5/6 Tag Rugby

The Wimbledon Cluster Year 5/6 Tag Rugby competition kicked off at Dundonald Recreation Ground on Thursday 22nd February 2018. It was fantastic to see every school represented and 17   teams in total battling it out to represent Wimbledon at the borough finals. Teams were drawn into four groups with the top two teams progressing into the top eight knockout rounds while the third and fourth placed teams looked to finish as high as possible in their respective knockout rounds.

Mitcham Cluster Year 5/6 Tag Rugby Competition

The Mitcham Cluster Tag Rugby Competition took place at Harris Academy Merton on Wednesday 21st February 2018. Eight schools from the cluster attended the event: Bond, William Morris, Links, Harris Primary, St Thomas, Sherwood and St Marks. Whilst the Harris Academy sports leaders familiarised themselves with the tag rugby rules, teams started to get warmed up as soon as they arrived, squeezing in some last minute practice and discussing tactics.

You 'Boccia' believe it's the inclusive tournament 2018

The Merton School Sport Partnership held their annual Borough Boccia Competition on Friday 26th January 2018 at Canons Leisure Centre. Twenty-four schools took part in the inclusive event and teams were split into four groups with six schools in each.  Each team had five group games and played for their seeding for the quarters, semis and final placings matches. Boccia is an inclusive mixed-gender Paralympic event that can be played by all ages, abilities and disabilities. The aim of the game is to propel your ball nearest to the ‘Jack’ ball to win.
