On Friday 24th June 2016, the Merton School Sport Partnership hosted the Gifted and Talented Festival at Harris Academy Morden. The event was attended by 20 different schools from the borough. The children that attended the festival had been selected due to their excellent performances at MSSP competitions or during their school PE lessons.
Throughout the day, children were given a fantastic opportunity of trying out a range of different sports which were led by local clubs in the area. These sports included lacrosse, futsal, cheerleading and volleyball. The children spent 30 minutes on each station before they rotated around to the next activity.
As the day drew to a close, the children were fortunate enough to have a motivational speech led by Dan Bloxham, Head Coach at the All England Club. Dan highlighted the importance of sport and physical activity whilst also identifying what it takes to make it as a top athlete. Dan challenged and inspired everyone to put their all into everything that they do.
Congratulations to everyone who was invited to the event. This was a real celebration of your fantastic sporting abilities. A special thanks to the following clubs for attending the festival and delivering such engaging sessions to the children: Hillcroft Lacrosse Club, London United Futsal Club, Unity All Stars and Wimbledon Volleyball Club. And finally thank you to Harris Academy Morden for hosting the event and the Harris Academy Morden students for helping out at the festival.
