The Merton School Sport Partnership hosted their Inclusive Cross Country Festival at Morden Recreational Ground on Friday 29th September 2017. 17 primary schools took part in the festival that included four race categories: year 3/4 girls, year 3/4 boys, year 5/6 girls and lastly year 5/6 boys. All the racers paced themselves over the 1200m course.
After a wet morning, luckily it cleared up just as the first schools started to arrive, this brightening the mood and atmosphere for all of the schools competing. As the year 3/4 girls stepped up to the line each school cheered on their teammates, the team spirit was fantastic throughout. The atmosphere that was generated spurred on the runners as they all put in 100% effort to complete each race. There was a lot of promising talent on display. This was demonstrated from those runners who paced themselves to the final 50m to then give themselves a sprint finish across the line.
Thank you to all the schools that took part in this great event. The winner of our Refspect award today was Miriam from Bond Primary School. She demonstrated an incredibly generous and selfless sporting performance by taking the hand of another participant who found it difficult to run the course and walked her round until she could continue on her own. Well done Miriam, you are a credit to your school.
The partnership would now like to encourage all runners to continue their hard work and hope to see them competing in the 2018 Challenge Run’s which take place on 23rd March.
