The Merton School Sport Partnership held their annual Borough Boccia Competition on Friday 10th March 2017 at Canons Leisure Centre. Twenty five special and mainstream schools took part in the event which is the highest attended Boccia event the Partnership has staged yet. Teams were split into three leagues and played a round robin format over eight pitches. Boccia is an inclusive Paralympic event that can be played by all ages, abilities and disabilities. The aim of the game is to propel your ball nearest to the ‘Jack’ ball to win.

The day consisted of lots of games for all the teams and the children taking part were really enthusiastic and positive which gave the event a buzzing atmosphere. It was evident that teams had been practising as there was some great team tactics played. All the teams showed great sportsmanship towards their peers and opponent’s: Cricket Green won the Partnership’s Refspect Award for their positive attitude on and off the court.

At the end of the event the Mayor of Merton, Councillor Brenda Fraser presented all the teams with their medals and certificates. A big thank you to the Harris Academy Morden sports leaders for officiating all the matches. They were excellent and a credit to their school. Thank you to all the schools that attended, we hope the children had a fantastic day and we hope to see them back again at next year’s event. The finals positions were as follows:
