The Merton School Sport Partnership Primary Swimming Gala Finals took place on Friday 26th June 2015 at Morden Park Swimming Pools.

Two qualifying heats had been held prior to this event with the fastest 6 swimmers in each of the events invited to compete in the finals. This year’s heats saw some breaking times, meaning the finals would be edge of your seat entertainment!

The event was held in the evening and organisers were overwhelmed with the number of spectators/supporters who came to watch! Schools had been busy creating their own school banners and flags in order to cheer their school on. Once the event started the noise was deafening and the atmosphere electric!

In the pool the races were superb, the swimmers spurred on every stroke by the screaming fans. Many of the races came down to the final stroke or the swimmer with the longest stretch to the wall. There were individual medals for the top three competitors in each race and also trophies for the winning relay teams. The medals where spread out evenly through all the schools which was good to see!

Congratulations to all swimmers. Just qualifying for the finals is a fantastic achievement and all swimmers performed to their best on the evening.

A special thank you goes to Kath Bennett from Malmesbury Primary School for planning and running an successful event! Thank you also to the young leaders from Rutlish secondary school (who gave up their own time on a Friday evening) and also Morden Pools for providing the venue.
