On a scorching hot Tuesday 20th June 2017 the Mitcham Cluster Y5/6 Rounders Competition took place at St Marks Academy. Bond, Links, St Mark’s, William Morris and Stanford all entered a team.
As there was only five schools a round robin format was played. All teams got to play each other once across two pitches. The children arrived ready and eager to play, the competition got off to a fantastic start.
Bond and St Mark’s kicked things off with a well by batting and fielding outstandingly. Both teams managed to score 7 rounders meaning both schools took 1 point from their first game.
William Morris struggled to get going but they turned that around quickly and started working well together as a team, to stop the other schools from scoring too many rounders. William Morris picked up a draw in their final game against a tough contender Bond.
Both Links and Stanford had some outstanding batters leaving the fielder with no chance of stopping them scoring. Both teams had won all of their games until they took on each other. This time Stanford came out on top with some brilliant fielding which stopped Links for scoring, the game ended Links 7- Stanford 9.
Throughout the competition, it was clear to see the schools were really starting to understand the rules and all schools improved massively as a team- Well done!
The final standings were:
1st- Stanford – 12pts
2nd- Links – 9pts
3rd- St Mark’s- 4pts
4th- Bond- 2pts
5th- William Morris- 1pt
A huge thankyou to all teams who competed and made the event extremely enjoyable. A huge thankyou to St Mark’s Academy for the use of their facilities as well as the sports leader who was fantastic throughout the day.
