The Morden Cluster held its annual Year 5/6 High 5 Netball Competition, on Wednesday 9th November 2016 at Harris Academy Morden. Four schools took part in the round robin event: Abbotsbury, Morden, St Peter’s & St Paul’s and St Teresa’s. It was a cold and wet day but this didn’t seem to phase the players.

The first match was between Morden and St Peter’s & St Paul’s, there was action at both ends of the court, St Peter’s & St Paul’s scored the first goal followed shortly by Morden’s swift passing around the defence to equalize. During the second half St Peter’s and St Paul’s were quick to score their second goal but Morden didn’t give up without a fight and scored with a shoot from the top of the D, just before the final whistle to finish 2-2.

Abbotsbury vs St Teresa’s was an exciting game demonstrating some excellent play. Both teams were able to pass the ball easily from one end of the court to the other. However, Abbotsbury proved that they had been practising their shooting and had no problems scoring goals; final score was Abbotsbury 2 – 0 St Teresa’s.

A crucial match to decide second and third place was Morden vs St Teresa’s. The game was fast paced with great defending from both teams. St Teresa’s just couldn’t manage to put the ball in the net. Morden with seconds left on the clock managed to keep themselves composed in the D and shoot to score the winning shot. Final results are as follows:

1st Abbotsbury                 9ts

2nd Morden                      5pts

3rd St Teresa’s                  2pts             -3GD

4th St Peter’s & St Paul’s   2pts             -5GD

Congratulations to Abbotsbury on becoming the new Morden Cluster High 5 Netball Champions. Thank you to Harris Academy Morden for hosting the event and to the primary schools for bringing their teams. Good luck to all four teams at the Borough Finals on Thursday 2nd March 2017.
