On Friday 4th October 2019, the Merton KS2 Inclusive Cross-Country Festival took place for students across our four cluster areas with representative schools coming from Wimbledon, Raynes Park, Mitcham and Morden. Thank you to all schools, teachers and supporters for attending today’s festival; our first event of the 2019-20 calendar year.
A record 20 schools attended and each brought a team of excited participants.
St. Teresa’s, Aragon, Morden, Perseid Upper and Lower, St. Thomas’, The Sherwood, Dundonald, Abbotsbury, Poplar, The Priory, Liberty, Bishop Gilpin, Cricket Green, St. Matthew’s, Garfield, Links, Singlegate, SS Peter and Paul and Merton Abbey came with runners from years 3, 4, 5 and 6 and took part in the schedule of races:
Race 1 – Year 3 and 4 Girls
Race 2 – Year 3 and 4 Boys
Race 3 – Year 5 and 6 Girls
Race 4 – Year 5 and 6 Boys
All participants tried their very hardest around the two laps of Morden Recreation Ground and were cheered and motivated on by the other schools every step of the way. This was especially noticeable when passing the spectator area where the noise and atmosphere was tremendous and so supportive!
Congratulations to all 20 schools who took away MSSP participation certificates and a special well done to Aragon School who were nominated by other schools for the REFSPECT Award. Great respect was shown across the whole event including cheering and clapping for other schools, making up supportive songs for the runners and someone even going back to help another runner who was struggling to finish the race. This help and awareness for others is wonderful to see in sport and physical activity.
