On Friday 13th March Merton’s top school swimmers battled hard for their Bronze, Silver and Gold medals at our Gala Finals. Over 30 schools had competed at the heats held in January and February. From these timed events the top six swimmers from each category were invited to take part in the finals at Morden Pool. 25 of the 30 schools had swimmers represent them at the finals which is a wonderful achievement.
With the limited viewing gallery space at the new pool it was slightly harder for spectators to get involved but the children on the pool side certainly kept the atmosphere alive with their cheering and excitement. Kath from Malmesbury once again kindly gave up her time to run the event with support from the MSSP team.
Schools arrived bright and early and were eager to get started. There were some very tight finishes and wonderful performances all round.
Congratulations go to all the finalists who did themselves very proud.
The team trophy was jointly won by Wimbledon Chase, fantastic individual and team performances meaning they soared to the top of the standings.
Thank you to all the school staff that brought and encouraged their students and to GLL and the lifeguards.
