The MSSP Key Steps 3 Year 5/6 Gymnastics Competition took place on Friday 31st January 2020 at Canons Leisure Centre. 21 schools attended the day: Bishop Gilpin, Links, St John Fisher, Hatfeild, The Priory, Benedict, Cranmer, Hillcross, Aragon, Wimbledon Park, St Mary’s, Dundonald, Singlegate, Merton Park, St Teresa’s, Pelham, Hollymount, William Morris, Garfield, Poplar and Malmesbury.

All gymnasts would be competing in three different disciplines throughout the competition: Floor, Vault and Body Management. Two judges were situated on each discipline who would be judging each individual competitor. When competing in Vault, competitors had one practice go, and then two competitive vaults and their best score would be taken towards their group score. For Floor and Body Management competitors only had one competitive routine to gain their highest score. Schools could bring a maximum of four gymnasts in which both the two male and two female scores would be taken from each discipline and put towards their group score.

With 22 teams attending, schools were split into six groups. All gymnasts were required to participate in all three disciplines, with an allocated practice station beforehand.

As schools arrived their gymnasts started to warm up straight away and it was clear to see the standard was going to be extremely high this year.

Throughout the entire competition all the gymnasts showed not only great individual talent, but a huge amount of team spirit. All gymnasts watched the other teams competing eagerly and showed great sportsmanship by congratulating and clapping all other competitors after they had performed. This definitely helped to calm the nerves of those gymnasts who had never competed at a gymnastics competition before.

Once all groups had competed on each discipline it was time to add up all the scores to see which school was going to qualify for the London Youth Games. Due to so many individual gymnasts scoring extremely highly on all disciplines, it was going to be a very close call!

Before the final team results were announced, the individual awards were given out. These were awarded to each boy and girl who had scored the highest results on each discipline. The results were as follows:
