On Wednesday 29th March 2017, 14 primary schools from across the borough came to Merton School Sports Partnerships annual Year 5/6 Tri- Golf Competition at Wimbledon Park Golf Club. Tri-Golf is a modified version of golf that uses foam balls, a plastic putter and chipper. The competition is made up of 8 stations; 4 putting and 4 chipping. The objective of the stations is to work as a team to score as many points as you can in 5 minutes. The winning team is the school with the greatest number of points after completing all 8 stations.

The day was split into two heats, an afternoon and a morning heat. From this, the results of both heats were compared to find an overall Tri Golf Borough champion. The morning heat consisted of eight schools with 10 students in each team. During the competition, all students demonstrated great team spirit and teamwork. Dundonald had a great start to the morning with a score of 354 in the Down the Middle chipping station. Wimbledon Park also achieved a whopping score of 98 on the Bullseye station, which should be highly commended. Throughout the day, Dundonald, Poplar, St Mary’s and Wimbledon Park were battling it out to get the medalling positions, however St Mary’s narrowly missed out on finishing 3rd to Wimbledon Park. Second position went to Dundonald and our winners of Pool A were Poplar with an outstanding total score of 1383. Congratulations to Wimbledon Park for winning our Refspect award after showing great sporting behaviour and respect to opponents, officials and for supporting their teammates.

In the afternoon, we saw 6 new schools competing to be Tri Golf Borough champions. A determined St Teresa’s A and B team flew out of the starting blocks reaching record-breaking score on many stations. Benedict were also recording high scores on many of the chipping stations and were determined to stay close to St Teresa’s. However, St Teresa’s A team proved too strong and came away with the gold medal after scoring 1438 points. Their ‘B’ team came close in second while Benedict managed to secure third place. St Teresa’s were also named our Tri-Golf Borough Champions and will now progress to the London Youth Games where they will represent the Merton borough. Congratulations to Links for winning the Refspect award in the afternoon heat. They secured every nomination for their impeccable respect and sporting behaviour, which was demonstrated throughout and every pupil was a credit to their school.

Well done to all involved and a special thanks goes to Wimbledon Park Golf Club for allowing us to use their excellent facilities and the Rutlish Leaders for helping officiate the event.
