On Tuesday 29th November 2016 the Raynes Park Cluster Year 3/4 Tag Rugby Tournament took place at Raynes Park High School Astro pitches.
With nine teams from the cluster taking part, the tournament was very well attended and after a brief introduction, players were eager to get started and demonstrate their skills. Luckily the tournament was blessed with bright, crisp conditions which were perfect for displaying some running rugby, and this was evident with the huge number of tries being scored across the three pitches throughout the festival.
With this event being a participation event, players were able to play without fear and inhibition and really push themselves out of their comfort zone in regards to attacking play and demonstration of defensive structure. All participating schools scored a number of well worked team tries as well as engineering some sublime individual efforts as a result of some sumptuous footwork and support play that really got on looking crowd excited.
A big thank you must be given to all competing schools as their attitude, respect and discipline to each other and school staff enabled us to run an extremely enjoyable competition, despite the un scheduled excitement of a whole school fire drill half way through.
A special mention must also be given to the Raynes Park High Sports Leaders who refereed the fixtures with professionalism and diligence, despite for many of them, this being their first experience of refereeing tag rugby – fantastic effort guys, well done!
An additional mention must go to Merton Park Primary, who were the REFSPECT award winners as a result of their continued positive attitude and sportsmanship to all of the teams they competed against – great work guys!
