The Wimbledon Cluster Y3/4 Tag Rugby Festival took place at Wimbledon Chase Primary School on Tuesday 14th March 2017. The festival was greeted with sublime sun drenched spring conditions, which allowed the 11 competing teams to play some fast-paced attacking rugby for their on-looking supporters.
Even though this was a non-competitive event, this did not deter teams from displaying some clinical rugby in both attack and defence, and it was obvious that all schools had been training hard and developing their tactics in preparation for this event.
It was great to see all players playing with a smile on their face and with the feeling of not being under any pressure to qualify. This in turn allowed teams to express themselves and take a few risks to score some magnificent individual and team orientated tries. In addition to this, all schools must be credited on the manner in which they played their fixtures and the level of respect and sportsmanship they showed each other as well as other teams. This was epitimised by… The Priory, who were voted REFSPECT winner for making the effort to always shake the referees and opposing schools staff members hand at the end of each fixture.
A huge thank you must go to Wimbledon Chase for letting us use their fantastic facilities, as well as a big thank you to the Rutlish Sports Leaders who officiated the festival brilliantly – great effort boys!
