On Thursday 10 November Wimbledon Chase Primary School hosted the Wimbledon Cluster Year 3/4 Best Team Football festival. 15 teams from 11 schools entered on the day and were split into 2 groups to play in a round robin format.
Group 1 consisted of Bishop Gilpin ‘A’, The Priory, Garfield, All Saints’ ‘A’, Dundonald, Wimbledon Chase ’A’, Wimbledon Park ‘A’ and Holy Trinity. The group got off to a fine start with all teams showing good organisation in defence and clinical finishing up front. The games were played in a great spirit with players determined to show off their skills and provide the spectators with some enthralling matches. The goals were flying in throughout the group and we got treated to some excellent finishing ensuring the games stayed tight.
Group 2 was equally competitive and all teams were putting in maximum effort representing their schools. The group had All Saints’ ‘B’, Wimbledon Chase ‘B’, Merton Abbey, St Mary’s, Pelham, Bishop Gilpin ‘B’ and Wimbledon Park ‘B’ playing against each other, displaying attacking football and pushing to score at every opportunity. Again there was plenty of quality on show with the determination and effort of all the players ensuring the matches were very close.
Our REFSPECT Award winners today were All Saints. They were positive throughout, applauding the opposing team, shaking hands and congratulating the opposition even when they lost. A great demonstration of fair play, sportsmanship and etiquette combined with fantastic team work and effort meant they were a credit to their school. Well done to everyone involved.
As always, we were incredibly fortunate to have the use of Wimbledon Chase’s excellent facilities – thank you. Thanks also to the leaders from Rutlish Secondary School, who officiated matches and kept the children focused on doing their best. To all the competitors, staff members and supporters, for the positive manner in which the tournament took place – thank you!
