The Merton School Sport Partnership Swimming Gala Heat’s 1/2/3 were held on Tuesday 30th January 2018 at Morden Park Pools. This first round of heats saw schools from the Raynes park and Wimbledon Clusters take to the water in the hope that they would qualify for the Borough Finals on Friday 16th March 2018 7.30 – 9.30pm at Morden Park Pools.

With less schools at each heat but more heats overall this year the atmosphere didn’t falter and was still buzzing. The schools wasted little time and got through their races quickly. Parents and friends provided some great support from the viewing balcony and the children really encouraged each other during all the races.

During the event swimmers, took part in one individual stroke: backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle and a relay race. Once we have the results from next week’s heats 4/5/6 the times will be compared and the top swimmers from each section will be asked to represent their schools and compete in the finals.

In spite of some nerves all of the children put on a great performances and swam their best with some very impressive finishing times.

We are also pleased to announce that we had four Ref-Spect winners across the 3 heats. Very well done to Dundonald, Hollymount, Hillcross and Hatfeild who were nominated by the other schools for their great support to others and sportsmanship through the day.

A big thank you to all the schools that took part and for taking the time to really assess their swimmers this year to ensure they didn’t struggle in such a loud and exciting environment.

A huge thank you to Kath from Malmesbury who ran the event again and to the Year 8 Sports Leaders from Rutlish who were very impressive throughout the day.
