The Merton School Sport Partnership Swimming Gala Heat’s 4/5/6 were held on Tuesday 6th February 2018 at Morden Park Pools. This second round of heats saw schools from the Morden and Mitcham Clusters take to the water in the hope that they would qualify for the Borough Finals on Friday 16th March 2018 7.70 – 9.30pm at Morden Park Pools.

Even with fewer schools at each heat (compared to the first round last week) the spectators still managed to create a great atmosphere for the swimmers.  There was lots of nerves with many swimmers racing for the first time but all the children put in a great effort and worked hard to get their best times.

During the event swimmers, took part in one individual stroke: backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle and a relay race. We will now compare the race times from all 6 heats and contact schools directly to invite the qualifying swimmers to the finals in March.

We are also pleased to announce that we had three Ref-Spect winners across the 3 heats. Very well done to Pelham, Singlegate and Links who were nominated by the other schools for their great support to others and sportsmanship through the day.

A big thank you to all the schools that took part.

A huge thank you to Kath from Malmesbury who ran the event again and to the Year 8 Sports Leaders from Rutlish who did an excellent job throughout the day.  Also a big thank you to the lifeguards at Morden Park Pool who supported us throughout the day.
