Activities

Our sports coaches and instructors will deliver a range of sport based activities throughout the day. These structured sessions will help participants to develop and improve their sporting ability across three key areas; skill development, team games and outdoor adventurous activities (OAA).

  • Skill sessions will breakdown specific areas of the chosen sport to help develop the skills needed to improve performance.
  • Game sessions will develop participants as confident competitors with an emphasis on fun game play and strategies.
  • Adventure sessions will focus on developing the practical thinking skills required for sport. Children will learn to rise to challenges, solve problems both independently and as part of a team, supporting one another in a physically active environment. On occasions we will combine the adventure sessions with an arts and crafts element.
  • Create sessions are provided as participants can find a full day of sport and activity quite demanding. The create sessions provide a more relaxing alternative to physical activity where children can be creative and develop their artistic nature through a range of instructor lead arts and crafts activities.

Safeguarding

School's Out Stay Active (SOSA) and it's staff are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all children who take part in any of their holiday programmes. SOSA ensure they promote a climate where children, staff and volunteers feel confident about sharing any concerns they may have about their own safety or the wellbeing of others. All our staff, coaches and volunteers have been recruited through Safer Recruitment procedures, this involves; an enhanced DBS check through Harris Academy Morden, obtaining two suitable references, Child Protection training and ensuring they are appropriately qualified and trained for their role.

Behaviour

All participants must adhere to our code of conduct and anti bullying policy. This policy is available on request - please contact us for further details.

Breaks and lunch

During the full day there will be two break times and one lunch break.  Lunch will not be provided by SOSA so make sure you provide your child with morning/afternoon snack, a packed lunch and plenty of fluids to drink (please note  that any food which may contain nuts is not permitted on site).

Clothing and accessories

Please wear loose sports clothing and sturdy sports footwear. Many activities will be outside so please also bring weather proof external layers and sun cream / protective wear.

Jewellery is not permitted due to the nature of the sporting activities and we cannot accept any liability for expensive personal items such as tablets or phones. Please keep these to a minimum.

Specific needs

SOSA recognises that the needs of individual children vary, and will endeavour to accommodate children with specific needs within the camp environment. We request that parents/carers of children with specific needs contact Head Office prior to booking, to discuss how SOSA can best accommodate the child, and consider what, if any, special arrangements can and need to be put in place.

Via the booking process every customer is asked whether their child has any specific needs. If this is the case a number of questions are asked to ensure the staff on-site have the guidance and support required to enable them to care for the child effectively and to enable the child to have the best possible experience with SOSA.

SOSA is unable to offer 1 to 1 care for any child. SOSA is however able to incorporate any carers or helpers that a child requires to attend camp into our programme, providing they pass the suitability checks set out in our Recruitment Policy (this will include an Enhanced DBS check). SOSA can also look into employing an additional member of staff to provide 1 to 1 care for the child. However the cost of this extra member of staff or for the additional carer/helper lies with the parent/carer.

SOSA will also endeavour to adapt, modify or change any activities in order to include all children in its activities. Where possible, SOSA will also explore the provision of modified equipment for activities.

Complaints service

Schools Out Stay Active (SOSA) aims to provide the highest quality care for all our children. We aim to offer a welcome to each individual child and family and to provide a warm and caring environment within which all children can learn and develop as they play.

We believe children and parents are entitled to expect courtesy and prompt, careful attention to their needs and wishes. Our intention is to work in partnership with parents and the community and we welcome suggestions on how to improve our organisation at any time. Many concerns can be resolved quickly by an informal approach to the appropriate member of camp staff.  However if this does not achieve the desired result, the following procedures should be followed.

How to make a complaint:

  • A parent who is unhappy about any aspect of the SOSA camp provision should first of all talk over any worries and anxieties with the SOSA Holiday Camp leader.
  • If this does not have a satisfactory outcome within a reasonable time, or if the problem recurs, the parent should put the concerns or complaint in writing to a SOSA Holiday Camp Manager. This can be done through an email sent to schoolsoutstayactive@outlook.com . We aim to respond to all written complaints within 28 days of receipt.
  • The next stage is to request a meeting with the SOSA Holiday Camp leader and Manager. Both parents and the Leader should have an additional person present if required and an agreed written record of the discussion should be made. Most complaints should be resolved informally at this initial stage.
  • If no resolution can be achieved then Ofsted may need to become involved. Their complaints number is 0300 123 4666.

We believe that most complaints are made constructively and can be sorted out at an early stage. We also ensure that complaints are taken seriously and dealt with fairly and in a way which respects confidentiality.
