The present building dates from 1950 and reflects the post-war government’s commitment to well resourced education at the inception of the "welfare state". It was further extended during the mid 1990s and at the beginning of the millennium, in order to meet the needs of an ever growing, popular, local school and also to prepare it for full primary status in September 2003. At The Sherwood, the philosophy held by all staff is a celebration of what children can do, in the firm belief that this will give them confidence to make endeavours in areas where they are less certain. We also recognise that there are several learning styles and intelligences. Our core value is the promulgation of respect for others. This along with our high academic standards was a feature of our successful Ofsted report in October 2002.
