The Mitcham Cluster Tag Rugby Competition took place at Harris Academy Merton on Thursday 4th November 2021. Five schools from the cluster attended the event: William Morris, St Thomas, Lonesome, Bond and St Marks. Teams started to get warmed up as soon as they arrived, squeezing in some last minute practice and discussing tactics. Once all schools arrived, they sat down to go through the afternoons schedule and rules of play.
As there were only 5 teams in total, a round robin format was used for the competition, meaning all teams played each other once. This got all teams very excited as they knew they had 4 matches to gain as many points as possible. Teams got 3 for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss.
The games kicked off and all teams got stuck in straight from the first whistle and set a great standard to uphold for the rest of the competition. There was a tremendous atmoshere created by the teams as they battled to represent their school with pride. There was amazing rugby on display and in particular, the attacking skills on show were outstanding. Once all teams had played each other the scores were then collated. The final standings proved extremely tight with only goal difference being the decider between the last spot for the borough finals. Congratulations to all competing teams, the final results were as followed:
1st – St Thoams
2nd – St Mark's
3rd – Lonesome
4th – Wm Morris
5th - Bond
The Refspect winners were St Mark's as they received the most nominations for being respectful, always shaking hands and being positive whilst playing. Congratulations!
St Thomas, St mark's, Lonesome and William Morris will be representing the Mitcham cluster for the Tag Rugby borough finals on Friday 26th November - Good Luck.
